Arsenal, Chelsea & Man Utd Ready To Battle-It-Out Over Brazilian Star

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to battle-it-out with Barcelona over the signing of unsettled Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos this summer, according to the Express.

Marquinhos forged a reputation as one of the finest young defenders in world football during his time at Roma which earned him a big-money move to PSG in the summer of 2013.

However, after an encouraging start to life in France, the 21-year-old has fallen out-of-favour under Laurent Blanc with Thiago Silva and David Luiz now the preferred central defensive partnership.

It’s left Marquinhos struggling to secure regular game-time this season which has led to speculation the Brazilian international could be looking for a new challenge this summer, and understandably there is no shortage of interest in his signature.

The Express claim that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all showing a keen interest in luring Marquinhos to the Premier League but the trio will face stiff competition from Barcelona, with the La Liga giants also understood to be in contention.

Marquinhos has done little to play down the speculation after telling reporters last month that he’ll consider his future at the end of the season.

”My future is in Paris? At the moment, yes. But I can only speak of the present.” Marquinhos is quoted as saying by the Express

“For now, I’m in Paris. Everyone knows you have to have a reflection at the end of the season. We’ll talk about the objectives of the club and of me personally.

“Right now, I try to be professional. I try to work to win my place and to have playing time.

“We’ll see how the season will finish. Afterwards, there will be a reflection.”

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but unless Marquinhos forces his way in to the PSG side over the coming weeks, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move on this summer and he’d be an excellent signing for any of the English trio being linked.

Arsenal’s ‘soft centre’ has once again been exposed this season while United could certainly do with a top class partner to play alongside Chris Smalling next season and Marquinhos would be an excellent addition for either club.

However, Chelsea are on the look-out for a long-term replacement for skipper John Terry and the Brazilian star would be a great fit at Stamford Bridge so it’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out as we head in to the summer months.
