Chelsea’s Targets Revealed As Conte Eyes New Signings To Fit Bold 4-2-4 Formation

Chelsea planning to bring in several big-money signings to fit Antonio Conte’s adventurous new system. See some of their transfer targets here.

It looks like it’s going to be a busy summer at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea planning to bring in several big-money signings to fit Antonio Conte’s adventurous new system, according to the Mirror.

It’s been a disastrous campaign for the deposed Premier League champions with the West Londoners set to miss out on Champions League qualification with a mid-table finish.

Guus Hiddink has steadied the ship since replacing Jose Mourinho in December but an overhaul is needed at Stamford Bridge and it looks like Conte is already making plans for when he officially takes over after the European Championships.

The Mirror claim that the Italian tactician is going to adopt an adventurous 4-2-4 formation next season as the 46-year-old believes the attacking style of play in the Premier League will suit his materplan.

Conte has used a 3-5-2 system at previous clubs but it would require a major overhaul of the defence in order to implement that formation at Chelsea so it looks like he’s decided to bring in a more attacking version of the traditional 4-4-2 instead next season.

The Mirror suggest that Conte has already told his scouts and agents of his plans with a list of potential targets already being drawn-up to suit his new system ahead of a busy summer in West London.

A new forward is understood to be a priority and the newspaper says that Chelsea have set their sights on Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann while PSG super-star Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also on their radar as he fancies a move to England.

The report also indicates that PSG playmaker Javier Pastore, Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan and Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci are also on Conte’s short-list of big-money targets.

It certainly seems like there are exciting times ahead for Chelsea fans as they’ll no doubt be looking forward to watching their team next season if Conte is to adopt a 4-2-4 formation as it will bring attacking football back to the Bridge after a few years of ‘parking the bus’ under Mourinho.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Conte is able to land any of his reported targets but Griezmann would be a sensational signing as he’s been outstanding for Atletico this season while Bonucci would be a superb long-term replacement for John Terry at the back.
