Arsenal legend Paul Merson has made his prediction ahead of our Premier League clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon.

We warmed up for the game with a routine 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Thursday night with Alexis Sanchez back to his best with a superb double to secure the three points at the Emirates.

The win saw us reclaim third spot in the table and restore our four point advantage over fifth-placed Manchester United but I still have eyes on Tottenham and we can cut their lead to just two points with a win ahead of their game with WBA on Monday.

The problem is, do the Arsenal players have the motivation left to grind out tough away wins? We couldn’t even do enough to edge past Crystal Palace on home soil last weekend and it’s this lackluster attitude that Merson feels will see us slip up against Sunderland.

The Black Cats are going to be fighting for their lives as they are desperate to climb out of the bottom three, so Merse believes Sam Allardyce’s men will do enough to hold us to a 1-1 draw tomorrow.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, he said:

Sunderland v Arsenal – Super Sunday, 2.05pm

I watched Arsenal on Sunday and it was one of the flattest performances I’ve seen, they just went through the motions. It was so quiet at the Emirates that I heard Petr Cech shout ‘keeper’ when clearing a ball. How is that possible in front of 60,000 people? Arsenal beat West Brom on Thursday, but they should have beaten Palace too. Sunderland, meanwhile, have picked up under Big Sam, winning at Norwich last week. I fancy them to edge closer to safety with a point, but they do need to score first.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1

We’ll have to wait and see whether Merson’s prediction proves accurate but a draw would all-but end our hopes of finishing above Tottenham and would once again leave the door open for Manchester United to steal fourth from us.

If you disagree with Merse and think Arsenal will win, then….
