[Video Goals] Liverpool 2-2 Newcastle: Lallana Stunner Not Enough As Reds Held
Liverpool threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with relegation threatened Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts got off to the perfect start as Daniel Sturridge received the ball with his back to goal before turning smartly to fire home the opener in just the first minute.
Liverpool looked to be cruising to a routine three points when they doubled their advantage in the 30th minute, Adam Lallana scoring the pick of the goals as he curled home a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.
However, Newcastle pulled one back shortly after half-time when Simon Mignolet missed a Vurnon Anita cross allowing Papiss Cisse to rise above Connor Randall and head home in to the empty net for 2-1.
Roberto Firmino saw a goal ruled out for offside and the Magpies took full advantage as they found the equaliser just minutes later as Jack Colback’s effort deflected past Mignolet to make it 2-2 in the 66th minute.
Neither side could find a winner so it ended all square leaving Liverpool down in seventh position while Newcastle move level on points with Sunderland at the bottom of the table.
