Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Key Duo Could Return Against Norwich
Arsene Wenger has confirmed Santi Cazorla or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be involved this weekend when Arsenal welcome Norwich City to the Emirates.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Santi Cazorla or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could make their injury return this weekend when we welcome Norwich City to the Emirates.
Cazorla has been on the sidelines for over five months after suffering a knee ligament injury in the reverse fixture against Norwich at Carrow Road back in late November.
The Spanish international’s proposed comeback was then delayed further when he aggravated an Achilles injury but he returned to full training earlier this month.
Oxlade-Chamberlain also resumed full training earlier this week after recovering from a knee injury which he picked up against Barcelona in February, meaning we finally have a fully-fit squad to choose from for the first time this season.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Norwich, Wenger confirmed that one of Cazorla or Oxlade-Chamberlain could be involved this weekend but whoever doesn’t play could then feature for the under-21’s on Tuesday night.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
“We have to decide that at the weekend,”
“Let’s focus on tomorrow’s game and after that the players who do not play will have the opportunity to get some competition on Tuesday because we play at Emirates Stadium.
“One of [Cazorla or Oxlade-Chamberlain] could be involved against Norwich, I’ve not decided. But Cazorla has been back for two weeks with the team now and Alex is in his first week.”
As Santi has been back in full training the longest, I think he’s more likely to be included in the squad tomorrow. There’s little chance of him starting but it would be great to see him get some minutes off the bench as we’ve sorely missed Cazorla in recent months.
