Transfer News: Arsenal Set To Table £5m Bid For Defensive Liverpool Target

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Kieran Tierney….
Arsenal are hoping to sign Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney ahead of Liverpool and are lining-up a £5m bid for the Scottish international this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Tierney has been on the books at Celtic since joining the club as an eight-year-old and progressed through their youth ranks before becoming a first team regular this season.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed an excellent debut season in the SPL and as well as earning his first cap for the senior Scottish national team, he was recently announced as the PFA Scottish Young Player of the Year.
His potential has attracted interest from south of the boarder with the Daily Star claiming that Arsenal and Liverpool are among the Premier League clubs who have been closely monitoring the left-back’s progress this season.
However, it looks as though Arsenal are ready to steal a march on the Merseysiders as the newspaper suggests that the Gunners are now ready to test Celtic’s resolve with a formal £5 million offer this summer.
Tierney still has three years left on his current contract so Celtic will be under no immediate pressure to cash-in but it remains to be seen whether the young defender will push for the move as he may find the prospect of playing in the Premier League too tempting to turn down.
Arsene Wenger is likely to be on the look-out for a new left-back with Kieran Gibbs expected to leave in search of regular first team football this summer and Tierney would be an exciting back-up to Nacho Monreal if Arsenal could lure him to the Emirates.
However, I still wouldn’t discount Liverpool from the race as Jurgen Klopp is also understood to be keen on bringing in cover for Alberto Moreno next season with Jose Enrique set to leave Anfield this summer after falling out-of-favour.
