Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are among the clubs ready to battle-it-out over the signing of Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer, according to the Express.
Kante has been nothing short of a revelation following his £5.6m move from Caen last summer with the midfielder playing a key role in helping Leicester pull off a shock Premier League title win this season.
The French international’s energetic performances in the middle of the park saw him named on the six-man short-list for the PFA Player of the Year while he was also named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
After such an impressive campaign, it’s no surprise that Kante is attracting interest from some of the Premier League’s most powerful clubs and the Express claim that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are among those leading the chase for his signature.
The newspaper cites L’Equipe as it’s source and the French-based outlet suggests that all three clubs are expected to make bids for the tough tackling defensive midfielder this summer while Manchester City and PSG are also believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation.
Arsenal will need to bring in a new defensive midfielder as Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are set to leave when their contracts expire next month and Arsene Wenger has been strongly linked with a move for Kante in recent months.
In-coming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is expected to be busy rebuilding at Stamford Bridge this summer after a disastrous campaign and a Kante could be seen as the ideal partner for Cesc Fabregas with Nemanja Matic falling out-of-favour after a difficult season.
However, the London duo will no doubt face stiff competition from United as they need to bring in a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick and Kante would also be an excellent signing for the Red Devils.
Leicester will be desperate to keep hold of the 25-year-old but Claudio Ranieri has already hinted they might be forced to cash-in if a big offer comes in for the likes of Kante and the player makes it clear he wants to leave, and it looks like there will be a host of clubs ready to pounce.
