Arsenal Eye Move For £25m South American But Liverpool & Man Utd Also Keen
Arsenal are eyeing a move for £25m-rated striker Mauro Icardi this summer but could face competition from the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd for his signature
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd are linked with Mauro Icardi…..
Arsenal are eyeing a move for £25m-rated Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi this summer but could face competition from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United for his signature, according to the Mirror.
Arsene Wenger is under increasing pressure to spend this summer after overseeing a hugely disappointing campaign that saw the Gunners blow their best chance of winning the Premier League in over a decade.
It looks like the French boss is going to respond by strengthening his strike-force and the Mirror claim that Wenger is eyeing a move for Inter Milan hitman Mauro Icardi.
The Argentinean international has been impressing during his three seasons at the San Siro having scored 51 goals in his 101 appearances since joining Inter from Sampdoria in 2013.
However, the 23-year-old’s future is uncertain with bookmakers making the forward odds-on to leave Italy this summer and the newspaper suggests that Inter could be ready to cash-in if an offer in the region of £25m was put on the table.
Arsenal could certainly do with another goal threat as Olivier Giroud has endured a difficult campaign and hasn’t found the target in his last 14 games, so Icardi could be the man to finally fire the North Londoners to the title next season.
However, they aren’t the only team in the running as the Mirror claim that Liverpool and Manchester United are also tracking the South American and could rival Arsenal for his signature this summer.
Jurgen Klopp is set to put his own stamp on the Liverpool squad after moving to Anfield in October and a new striker could be on the cards with the long-term futures of Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge unclear.
United are also expected to bring in a new front-man to help ease the load on Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney next season and Icardi is the type of talent that’s likely to appeal to whoever is in charge at Old Trafford this summer amid rumours that Louis van Gaal could be sacked.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Icardi would be an exciting signing who’d be a real asset to the Premier League if Arsenal, Liverpool or United could lure him to England this summer.
