Man Utd Ready To Hijack Chelsea’s Move By Triggering Attackers £63m Release Clause
Manchester United are determined to sign Chelsea target Antoine Griezmann this summer and are ready to match Atletico Madrid’s £63.1m asking price
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Chelsea target Antoine Griezmann…
Manchester United are determined to sign Chelsea target Antoine Griezmann this summer and are ready to match the £63.1m figure written into his Atletico Madrid contract, according to the Express.
Griezmann made his name at Real Sociedad but has developed in to one of the most dangerous attackers in world football since joining Atletico in the summer of 2014.
The 25-year-old scored the crucial away goal against Bayern Munich last night which saw Diego Simeone’s side progress to the final of the Champions League after the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate.
It was Griezmann’s 31st goal of an incredible season for the attacker and understandably he’s attracting interest from some of Europe’s most powerful clubs with the Mirror reporting last month that Chelsea are ready to offer the French international a lucrative contract to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
However, it looks as though the Blues are going to face stiff competition for his signature as the Express are citing reports coming out of Spain today that claim Manchester United are determined to sign Griezmann this summer.
The newspaper suggests that United chiefs are desperate to bring in a marquee signing and are prepared to meet the £63.1m release clause written in to the players current deal – which has four years left to run – as well as meeting any demands for a bumper contract.
If these reports are accurate, it looks as though the two Premier League giants are set to go head-to-head over Griezmann’s signature and I think he’d be an excellent signing for either club.
United clearly need to bring in another attacker this summer to help solve their goal-scoring problems and the Frenchman would certainly give the Red Devils a new threat in the final third if they were able to lure him to Old Trafford.
However, new boss Antonio Conte is set to overhaul the Chelsea squad this summer after a disastrous campaign for the Blues and Griezmann is exactly the type of player the Italian tactician could build his new-look squad around next season.
