[Video Goals] Sunderland 3-2 Chelsea: Terry Sent Off As Black Cats Beat Chelsea

By on May 7, 2016

John Terry was sent off on what’s likely to be his final appearance in a Chelsea shirt as Sunderland boosted their survival hopes with a huge 3-2 comeback win at the Stadium Of Light this afternoon.

Things looked to be going to plan for Chelsea as Diego Costa curled home from a tight angle to open the scoring in the 14th minute before Wahbi Khazri made it 1-1 with a stunning volley in the 41st minute.

Chelsea restored their advantage on the stroke of half time as Nemanja Matic raced clear to slot under Vito Mannone for 1-2 but Fabio Borini drew Sunderland level once again in the 67th minute as his shot from the edge of the area deflected off Terry and past Thiabut Courtois.

The hosts then completed the turn-around as Jermaine Defoe pounced to score what turned out to be the winner with a trademark strike in the 70th minute. Chelsea’s hopes of finding an equaliser were dashed when Terry was sent off for a second bookable offence in stoppage time.

The win sees Sunderland climb out of the bottom three as they move one point clear of Newcastle with a game in hand.
