Arsenal On Verge Of Completing £30m Deal As Wenger Kicks Off Summer Spending

Arsenal are on the verge of completing the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka in a deal understood to be worth in the region of £30m

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal close in on the signing of Granit Xhaka….

Arsenal are on the verge of completing the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka in a deal understood to be worth in the region of £30 million, according to the Express.

Arsene Wenger is under pressure to invest heavily in the squad this summer after we blew our best chance to end our 12-year wait for the Premier League title and it looks like he’s already closing in on his first signing.

With Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta all set to leave when their contracts expire next month, a new central midfielder is needed and it looks as though the boss has set his sights on Granit Xhaka.

The Swiss international has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months and the Express are citing a report coming from German outlet Sport1 which claims he’s now on the verge of completing his move to Arsenal.

The newspaper indicates that the transfer fee will be worth in the region of £30m while the Express also point out that Bild have reported that we’ve offered Xhaka a deal worth £120,000-a-week.

The 23-year-old has developed in to one of the most accomplished central midfielders in the Bundesliga this season and he’s known for his superb passing range as well as his leadership skills.

If these reports are accurate and Xhaka does end up joining the club, then we’ll finally have some proper depth in the midfield department – which is an area where we suffered a number of injuries this season – and he’ll provide stiff competition to Francis Coquelin in the defensive midfield role.

He shouldn’t have any problem fitting in with the physical nature of the Premier League as Xhaka is known for his aggressive approach having been sent off an incredible 8 times already in his career, so we might have to try and tame his temper if he does end up at the Emirates this summer.
