Arsenal Star Facing Up To 5 Months Out After Scans Confirm Knee Cartilage Tear

Arsenal and England have been dealt a major injury blow after scans confirmed that Danny Welbeck has suffered a tear to the cartilage in his right knee

Arsenal and England have been dealt a major injury blow after scans confirmed that Danny Welbeck has suffered a tear to the cartilage in his knee, according to the Telegraph.

Welbeck was forced off midway through the first half of Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon after a clash with Bacary Sagna while they contested a ball in the 24th minute.

The 25-year-old looked frustrated as he limped straight down the tunnel having been replaced by Jack Wilshere and Arsene Wenger admitted after the game he was fearing that Welbeck had damaged his lateral meniscus, which is the cartilage surrounding the knee joint..

It appears those fears have now been realised as the Telegraph claim that following scans on Monday, the results indicate that Danny has in fact suffered a tear to his knee cartilage.

The newspaper says that the attacker will see specialist knee surgeon Andy Williams today to discuss the best course of treatment but it looks almost certain that Welbeck will miss Euro 2016 this summer.

If he requires surgery, then the former Manchester United forward is facing several months on the sidelines but Goal are reporting that the initial diagnosis is that Welbeck has been ruled out for between 3-5 months.

The news will come as a huge blow as Welbeck only recently returned from 10 months on the sidelines with another knee injury so this latest problem is going to be a bitter pill for him to swallow.

Danny has been in great form since returning to action, scoring five goals and providing two assists since his return in February, and he was hotly tipped to play a key role for England at this summer’s European Championships.

However, he’s now facing the prospect of not only missing out on a major international tournament, but he’s also facing a race against time just to be fit to take part in our pre-season preparations ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
