[Video Goals] Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea: Benteke Rescues Reds At The Death

By on May 11, 2016

Christian Benteke scored in stoppage time to rescue a point as Liverpool drew 1-1 with Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp fielded a strong team but the players seemed to have one eye on next week’s Europa League final as Chelsea started the brighter of the two sides.

The visitors eventually broke the deadlock and it was Eden Hazard who opened the scoring with the Belgian international dancing his way through the Liverpool defence before finding the bottom corner with a fine effort.

Liverpool struggled to find their fluency and had goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to thank for keeping them in the game as he made some fine stops to keep the scoreline at 0-1.

Chelsea were made to pay for not getting the second goal as Asmir Begovic flapped at a Sheyi Ojo cross and the ball fell to Benteke who nodded home in to the empty net for 1-1.

The result leaves Liverpool eighth in the Premier League table but qualification to the Europa League is now out of their own hands going in to the final weekend of the season – although the Reds will be hoping to qualify for the Champions League by beating Sevilla next week.

Here are highlights and the goals:
