Arsenal finished second in the table after Tottenham Hotspur were thrashed 5-1 by 10-man Newcastle United at St James’ Park this afternoon.

Despite being relegated in midweek, Newcastle started well and took a deserved lead as Mousa Sissoko crossed low and Alex Mitrovic teed up Georginio Wijnaldum, who found the bottom corner for 1-0 in the 19th minute.

It was 2-0 before half-time as Mitrovic powered in a header from Sissoko’s cross in the 39th minute before Spurs pulled on back in the 60th minute when Erik Lamela fired in to the roof of the net from a tight angle.

Mitrovic was then sent off in the 68th minute for a horror tackle on Walker but the hosts rallied and made it 3-1 from the spot as Wijnaldum converted after Sissoko was fouled in the area.

Tottenham collapsed as Newcastle put some gloss on the scoreline with late goals from Rolando Aarons and Daryl Janmaat, and with Arsenal beating Aston Villa 4-0 at the Emirates, Tottenham fell to third in the table.
