Manchester United are ready to steal a march on Arsenal and Liverpool by tabling a £30.8m bid for Schalke attacker Leroy Sane this summer, according to the Express.
Sane has developed in to one of the hottest young properties in European football since breaking in to the Schalke first team in 2014 having progressed through the clubs youth team set-up.
The 19-year-old has just come off the back of an impressive campaign that saw him score 8 goals and provide 6 assists in his 33 league appearances to help Schalke finish fifth in the Bundesliga table and qualify for the Europa League.
The German international’s potential has caught the eye of several Premier League teams with the Express claiming that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all shown a keen interest in the attacker this season.
Arsene Wenger is under pressure to spend this summer after the Gunners missed out on their best chance to win the title in over a decade and Sane could be viewed as the ideal replacement for Theo Walcott, should the England international leave the Emirates following a disappointing campaign.
Jurgen Klopp is also expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to put his own stamp on the squad he inherited when he replaced Brendan Rodgers in October, and the Reds boss will know Sane well from his time in Germany.
However, it looks as though United are now set to steal a march on their rivals as the newspaper is quoting Goal as reporting that the Red Devils are ready to test Schalke’s resolve with a £30.8m offer for Sane’s signature.
The Express claim that United scouts have put together a detailed dossier on Sane and vice-chairman Ed Woodward is now understood to be ready to open formal negotiations with Schalke over a potential deal.
Sane has predominantly been played as a right-winger for Schalke but he’s also capable of playing anywhere across the attacking three positions behind the striker so he’d give United plenty of options if he was to make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
However, the Bundesliga outfit will no doubt be keen to keep hold of the attacker, who was named in Germany’s provisional squad for Euro 2016 this week, and I think they’ll try and hold out for more before contemplating selling one of their key men.
