The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arda Turan is linked with a move to the Premier League….
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been put on red alert after Barcelona decided to cash-in on £26m midfielder Arda Turan this summer, according to the Express.
Turan was once regarded as one of the most exciting attackers in European football after enjoying an excellent four-year spell with Atletico Madrid where he helped them win the La Liga title and the Europa League.
The Turkish international has since fallen off the footballing radar after agreeing to join Barcelona in a £26m deal last summer – despite knowing he wouldn’t be able to play for his new club until January due to the Catalans transfer ban.
Understandably, after six months in the wilderness, Turan struggled to find his best form when he was finally allowed to play for Barca at the turn of the year and he made just nine league starts during the second half of the season.
In fact, he played just a total of 816 minutes of La Liga football and was unable to reproduce the kind of form that persuaded Barca to take him to the Nou Camp with his performances both in central midfield and out wide drawing heavy criticism.
The Express claim that Turan is already growing increasingly frustrated with his bit-part role and his time at Barcelona could be coming to an abrupt end as the newspaper says the club have decided to listen to offers for the 29-year-old this summer.
Turan could now be offered the chance to resurrect his career here in England as the report states that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been alerted to the news that the Turkish international is available.
Arsene Wenger is under pressure to spend this summer after blowing Arsenal’s best chance to land the title in over a decade and Turan could be seen as a replacement for Theo Walcott, with the England international’s future in North London in serious doubt.
New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer overhauling the squad after a disastrous campaign and Turan could get the chance to link-up with Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge having played together during their time at Atletico.
However, United are also gearing up for an important summer with the Red Devils likely to be active in the market after a disappointing season and they could certainly do with more options in attack having only scored 49 goals in their 38 league games this season.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think Turan would be a decent signing for any of the three English clubs being linked. With a full pre-season at his new club and the promise of more regular first team football, the Turk could be back to something like his best form in no time.
