Mourinho Aiming To Beat Liverpool & Chelsea To Signing Of £29m Attacker

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is hoping to fend off interest from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea to land Roma’s £29m-rated midfielder Miralem Pjanic

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, three English clubs are linked with Miralem Pjanic…

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is hoping to fend off interest from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea to land Roma’s £29m-rated midfielder Miralem Pjanic this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Mourinho was unveilled as Louis van Gaal’s successor last week and the former Chelsea boss is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer rebuilding the squad he’s inherited from the sacked Dutchman.

Central midfield is likely to be a priority for the Portuguese coach as Michael Carrick is out-of-contract this month while Ander Herrera has failed to establish himself since arriving from Athletic Bilbao and it looks as though Mourinho has set his sights on Pjanic.

The Bosnian international is one of the best attacking midfielders in Serie A and has just come off the back of another superb campaign where his 12 goals and 13 assists in all competitions helped Roma finish third in the table and qualify for the Champions League next season.

That impressive form has attracted interest from the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Liverpool and Chelsea have both shown a keen interest in luring Pjanic to England this summer.

Jurgen Klopp has been busy in the market already with goalkeeper Loris Karius becoming the Reds third major signing of the summer last month but it appears the Liverpool boss wants to strengthen his midfield options and Pjanic is seemingly on his radar.

Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is also expected to be active in the market reshaping the Blues squad following a disappointing season and the former Juventus coach knows Pjanic well from his time in Italy.

However, it looks as though Liverpool and Chelsea will now face stiff competition for the 26-year-old’s signature as the Mirror are citing a report from Mundo Deportivo that claims Mourinho has now made Pjanic one of his prime targets and could be ready to meet his £29m (€38m) buyout clause – which is only active until July 15th.

The attacking midfielder would be a superb addition for any of the three English clubs but it’s not going to be easy to secure his signature as the Spanish outlet suggests that Juventus and PSG are also interested while Pjanic is understood to have his heart set on joining Barcelona.
