Watch David James Recreate Michael Owen’s Famous England Goal vs Argentina

With the European Championships just around the corner, Continental Tyres are on their ‘Road to France’ tour and they’ve teamed up with David James to see if the former Liverpool goalkeeper can recreate one of Michael Owen’s most famous goal’s.
For those too young to remember, Owen burst on to the international scene with a stunning solo goal during England’s 2-2 draw with Argentina in the quarter finals of the 1998 World Cup – which was held in France.
That famous game was played at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Etienne and predictably ended in penalty shoot-out failure as the Three Lions once again crashed out of a major tournament in dramatic style.
With Euro 2016 also scheduled to take place in France this month, Continental Tyres have persuaded David James to try and recreate Owen’s superb strike at the same ground in Saint-Etienne – which will once again be one of the host venues this summer.
In the video below, James – who won 53 England caps between 1997 and 2010 – does his best to fill Owen’s boots as he twists and turns his way through the Argentinean ‘defence’ before seamlessly finding the back of the net – although the out-takes show it took the 45-year-old several attempts to find the target!
James, who represented the likes of Aston Villa, West Ham and Portsmouth during his distinguished career, also gives his thoughts on the England team ahead of their Euro 2016 campaign as they prepare to face Wales, Russia and Slovakia in Group B later this month.
This video is the first episode of nine that are due to be released over the coming weeks with each covering one of the host venues for France 2016.
