Arsenal are willing to pay £20m to land Colombian international Jeison Murillo after contacting Inter Milan to discuss the defender’s availability this summer
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Jeison Murillo….
Arsenal are willing to pay £20m to land Colombian international Jeison Murillo after contacting Inter Milan to discuss the defender’s availability this summer, according to a report in the Gazzetta dello Sport.
Arsene Wenger has already kick-started his summer transfer business after signing midfielder Granit Xhaka but the French boss is expected to continue to strengthen his squad with a new defender likely to be on the agenda.
Per Mertesacker’s weaknesses at the back were once again exposed last season and Gabriel failed to prove he’s the reliable partner for Laurent Koscielny that we need so a new top class centre-back is likely to be brought-in this summer.
It looks like Wenger is already making his moves as Gazzetta dello Sport claim Arsenal are one of several clubs who’ve made contact with Inter Milan to discuss the availability of Jeison Murillo.
The Colombian international only joined Inter last summer but has settled well in Italy and is appears his impressive performances at the back have caught the attention of Wenger and his team of scouts.
The Italian publication suggests that with Inter needing to find £39m this summer to cover their debts and comply with Financial Fair Play rules, they are ready to cash-in on Murillo as long as their £20m asking price is met.
Wenger should have plenty of money left over to spend and Gazzetta dello Sport say we are willing to match Inter’s valuation in order to land the 24-year-old South American defender this summer – although we could yet face competition from the likes of Leicester, Stoke and Zenit.

As ever at this time of year, we need to be cautious with the rumours that are circulating in the media until something more concrete comes out, so we’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of this Murillo speculation.
However, the Colombian is certainly a talented defender who has impressed in Serie A so he could be an interesting signing if we do end up bringing him to the Emirates over the comes weeks.
