Man Utd Discussing Personal Terms With Defender After Agreeing £31m Deal

Manchester United are discussing personal terms with Ivory Coast centre-back Eric Bailly after agreeing a deal worth £31m for his signature with Villarreal

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Manchester United close in on a centre-back….

Manchester United are discussing personal terms with Ivory Coast centre-back Eric Bailly after agreeing a deal worth £31m for his signature with Villarreal, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Jose Mourinho was confirmed as the new United manager last month and is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer rebuilding the squad he’s inherited from Louis van Gaal.

A new centre-back to partner Chris Smalling is likely to be a priority after Daley Blind was forced to fill-in at the back for much of last season with Phil Jones struggling for form and fitness.

Several names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford but it appears Mourinho has found his man as Spanish outlet AS are reporting that United have agreed a deal with Villarreal worth around £31m for defender Eric Bailly.

The report claims that United won’t pay the full £31m up front but rather a lump sum followed by various add ons, but the Red Devils are now understood to be discussing personal terms with the 22-year-old centre-back and the deal could be completed as early as tonight.

Bailly has been left out of the Ivory Coast squad for their game against Gabon today which has increased speculation that he’s finalising his move to Old Trafford, so it looks as though Mourinho is closing-in on his first signing since taking over at United.

The young defender only joined Villarreal from Espanyol in a £4m deal 18 months ago so the Yellow Submarine are set to make a huge profit on the player. Bailly is known to be a strong centre-back and while his progress has been hampered by a series of shoulder injuries, he did impress during the 25 La Liga games he started last season.

If these reports prove accurate and United do end up signing Bailly, it would be something of a surprise but the United fans will have to trust Mourinho’s judgement on this one and hope the Ivorian proves to be a success at Old Trafford.
