The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd and Man City are linked with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang…..
Manchester United have been left to battle-it-out with Manchester City over the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after Arsenal cooled their interest in the £60m-rated Borussia Dortmund hitman, according to the Mirror.
Aubameyang has become one of the most feared strikers in world football over the past couple of years and enhanced his reputation having scored an incredible 39 goals in 49 games in all competitions for Dortmund last season.
That sort of form has understandably attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League with the Mirror suggesting that Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been keen on luring him to England this summer.
However, it looks like it’s now a race between the two Manchester clubs as the newspaper claims that Arsenal’s interest has now cooled as they close-in on a deal to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester City.
New United boss Jose Mourinho is expected to be busy in the transfer market rebuilding the squad he’s inherited from Louis van Gaal and Aubameyang would be the kind of marquee signing that the Portuguese coach will no doubt be looking for.
With Wayne Rooney’s future looking increasingly likely to be in a deeper midfield role, Mourinho needs support from young forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, and Aubameyang would be a sensational addition to the squad.
However, City will provide stiff competition as Pep Guardiola is also expected to be active this summer reshaping his new squad and Aubameyang would form a devastating partnership alongside Sergio Aguero if he was to make the move to Eastlands.
The Mirror claim that Dortmund will demand a fee in the region of £60m to sell the Gabon international – which would represent a British record – but I think he’d be worth it as Aubameyang is an excellent striker who has all the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League.
