The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, the race hots up for Alvaro Morata…
Manchester United are ready to steal a march on Arsenal and Chelsea by launching a move to sign Spanish hitman Alvaro Morata this summer, according to ESPN.
Morata’s future has been a hot topic this summer as Real Madrid are reportedly ready to activate a £23m buyback clause that they inserted in to the deal that saw the striker move to Juventus two years ago [source: ESPN].
The La Liga giants are then expected to sell the 23-year-old on at a huge profit and Morata has been strongly linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs with ESPN claiming that Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea have all shown a keen interest in bringing him to England.
Arsene Wenger is on the look out for another forward after Danny Welbeck was ruled out for nine months and with the Gunners proposed move for Jamie Vardy on the rocks, Arsenal could step-up their interest in Morata.
Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer reshaping the squad he’s inherited with support for Diego Costa up front likely to be a priority and the Italian knows Morata well as he was the man who took him to Juve in 2014.
However, it looks like the London duo have their work cut out as ESPN claim their sources indicate that Man Utd are leading the chase for Morata and are ready to table a formal offer for the striker’s signature.
New boss Jose Mourinho is also expected to be active in the market as he looks to add more firepower to a side that scored just 49 league goals last season and the Special One handed Morata his debut during his time at Madrid.
We’ll have to wait and see whether United can get a deal agreed but until something is signed the door remains open for the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea – although the Sun are reporting that Morata favours a move to Old Trafford as long as Zlatan Ibrahimovic isn’t also signed by Mourinho this summer.
It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how things play out over the coming weeks and Morata has already become one of the sagas of the summer window. How will the tale end up? Who knows, but it looks like there is a strong chance the Spanish hitman will be plying his trade in the Premier League next season.
