The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Theo Walcott…
Liverpool are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve with a £25m bid for Theo Walcott and tempt the attacker with a four-year deal worth £120,000-a-week, according to the Express.
Walcott has been with Arsenal for over ten years having joined the club from Southampton in January 2006 and has racked up almost 350 appearances for the Gunners first team.
However, the 27-year-old’s future in North London is in serious doubt as he’s been tipped to leave Arsenal this summer after falling out of favour last season which cost him a place in the England squad for Euro 2016.
There have been reports suggesting that Walcott is willing to remain at the Emirates and fight for his future but it looks as though he’s going to get a tempting offer to leave and resurrect his career at Anfield this summer.
That’s because the Express are citing a report from Football Insider that claims Liverpool are now ready to formalise their interest with a £25m bid and will look to lure Walcott to Merseyside with a four-year deal worth £120,000-a-week.
Jurgen Klopp has already been busy strengthening his squad with goalkeeper Loris Karius joining midfielder Marko Grujic and defender Joel Matip in moving to Liverpool but the German is looking to add to his attack with Walcott seemingly on his radar.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the former Southampton attacker would be open to the move but a bumper contract and the promise of more regular first team football could be a tempting prospect for Walcott while the newspaper suggests that Arsenal are likely to accept should a £25m bid be put on the table, so a deal could be on the cards.
I’m sure the Gunners would ideally not want to sell to a domestic rival but there doesn’t appear to be any serious interest coming from abroad so a switch to Liverpool could suit all parties.
Therefore, this is one proposed deal that I think is worth keeping an eye on and I think Walcott could flourish if given a more prominent role at Anfield. He seems to have lost his confidence at Arsenal and a fresh start at Liverpool could be just what is needed to get his career back on track.
