Man Utd Hoping To Hijack Chelsea’s Move For £42m Midfielder
Manchester United are hoping to hijack Chelsea’s move for a £42m-rated midfielder. Find out who the player is and all the details here.
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd to rival Chelsea for Andre Gomes….
It looks like Manchester United are hoping to hijack Chelsea’s move for Andre Gomes as Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Jose Mourinho is desperate to lure the Valencia midfielder to Old Trafford.
Gomes made a permanent move to the Mestalla Stadium from Benfica last summer following a successful loan spell and excelled in a struggling side that finished 12th in the La Liga table last season.
The 22-year-old has attracted interest from the Premier League as Sky Sports News reported earlier this week that Chelsea had seen their opening £32m offer rejected by Valencia.
New Blues boss Antonio Conte is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to rebuild a Chelsea squad that finished 10th in the Premier League last season and it appears the Italian tactician is keen to lure Gomes to Stamford Bridge.
However, it looks like Chelsea are going to face stiff competition for his signature as Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim new Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to lure the Portuguese international to Old Trafford.
Mourinho is set for a busy summer overhauling the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal and central midfield is likely to be an area of concern as Michael Carrick is coming towards the end of his career while Bastian Schweinsteiger endured an injury-plagued debut season at the club.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea are going to improve their offer or what United’s opening bid will be but Sky Sports claim that Valencia are demanding at least £42m for his signature as former club Benfica are due 25% of any sale.
Gomes would be an excellent signing for either Chelsea or United if they were able to get a deal agreed this summer, however, they could face further competition from abroad as Mundo Deportivo suggest that Barcelona and Juventus are also showing a keen interest in the midfielder.
So it looks like two of England’s most powerful clubs are set to battle-it-out over Gomes’s signature but any potential deal will have to wait as he’s currently over in France representing Portugal at Euro 2016 and starred during their opening 1-1 draw with Iceland earlier this week.
