Arsenal Submit Bid For Bundesliga Attacker But Agent Claims He Wants Man Utd Move
Arsenal have tabled a formal offer for Henrikh Mkhitaryan but the agent of the Borussia Dortmund midfielder claims he wants to join Man Utd this summer
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, the race for Henrikh Mkhitaryan hots-up…..
Arsenal have tabled a formal offer for Henrikh Mkhitaryan but the agent of the Borussia Dortmund midfielder claims he wants to join Manchester United this summer, according to the Express.
Mkhitaryan has just one year remaining on his current deal and his future has been thrown in doubt after Dortmund confirmed earlier this week that he wouldn’t be signing a contract extension after negotiations over a new deal broke down.
The Armenian international reaffirmed his status as one of the best attackers in world football after scoring 23 goals and providing an incredible 32 assists in all competitions last season.
With his future up in the air, it’s easy to understand why he’s attracted interest from the Premier League and the Express claim that Arsenal have now stepped-up their interest with a formal offer for the 27-year-old.
Arsene Wenger has already snapped up central midfielder Granit Xhaka but the French boss is expected to bring in another forward with Theo Walcott tipped to leave the Emirates this summer and Mkhitaryan appears to be the player he wants.
The newspaper doesn’t indicate how much Arsenal’s supposed bid was worth but it’s going to be interesting to see how Dortmund respond as the clubs SEO Hans-Joachim Watzke is quoted by the Express as saying that Dortmund officials have decided to hold Mkhitaryan to the final 12 months of his contract.
“We have been negotiating a new deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan for four months.
“We now know he won’t sign an extension. There was never a promise that he can leave us prematurely.
“We have intensely discussed the question of an early transfer in all club bodies and came to the conclusion that will stay in Dortmund next season.”
Arsenal aren’t the only club in the running as the Express claim that Manchester United have already seen a £19m bid knocked back by Dortmund, so the Gunners offer would need to be in excess of £20m to persuade the German giants to cash-in.
Not only do Arsenal have to try and tempt Dortmund in to a sale but Mkhitaryan’s agent, Mino Raiola, has claimed that the attacker’s preference is to move to Old Trafford this summer and he’s working hard to get a deal agreed with United. He is quoted as saying by talkSPORT:
“He wants to go to Manchester United and we are still trying to resolve the situation,”
“We are still talking to Dortmund. We are trying to be reasonable. They are aware that Micki wants to leave now.”
Jose Mourinho has already splashed out on defender Eric Bailly but the Portuguese coach is also expected to strengthen his attack and Mkhitaryan would bring some much needed creativity to the United front line if he was to join the club.
I’m sure Arsenal won’t give up without a fight and things can change very quickly in football, but as it stands United appear to be in pole position to secure a deal if Dortmund decide to sell. And it would be something of a coup if United were to pip their rivals to Mkhitaryan’s signature as they aren’t able to offer Champions League football next season.
