Man Utd Boss Mourinho Hoping To Land Chelsea Star In Player Swap Deal
Jose Mourinho is hoping to use Antonio Conte’s interest in Matteo Darmian to land Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in a stunning player swap deal this summer
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, could Man Utd and Chelsea be about to swap players?
Jose Mourinho is hoping to use Antonio Conte’s interest in Matteo Darmian to land Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in a stunning player swap deal this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
Mourinho was installed as Louis van Gaal’s replacement last month and he’s already kick started his overhaul of the squad with the signing of highly-rated defender Eric Bailly from Villarreal.
However, the Portuguese coach is expected to bring in several further new signings over the coming weeks with a physical midfielder believed to be on the agenda and the Mirror claim he’s set his sights on Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.
The Serbian international was the first player Mourinho signed during his second spell back at Stamford Bridge after resigning him from Benfica in 2014 and it looks as though the ‘Special One’ is keen to be once again reunited at Old Trafford.
Matic enjoyed an excellent first season back in West London after playing a key role in helping Chelsea reclaim the Premier League title but he endured a difficult follow-up campaign and fell out-of-favour after Mourinho was sacked back in December.
It remains to be seen whether Matic features in Antonio Conte’s plans for next season but the Italian tactician is also expected to be extremely busy in the transfer market reshaping the Chelsea squad once he officially takes over after Euro 2016.
The Mirror claim that Conte has a keen interest in signing United full-back Darmian as the 26-year-old is a firm favourite under him with the Italian national team and his versatility is just what the former Juventus boss is looking for at Chelsea.
Darmian endured a mixed debut season in England following his move from Torino and while Mourinho is willing to give all the current players a chance to impress under his regime, the newspaper suggests he isn’t totally convinced by the full-back and may be willing to cash-in this summer.
Ordinarily, neither United or Chelsea would choose to do business with each other but the Mirror claim that Mourinho is willing to make an exception and is hoping to use Chelsea’s interest in Darmian to propose a player swap deal involving Matic.
We’ll have to wait and see how the Blues would respond to such an idea but it may make sense to try and thrash out a deal if neither player is going to be a regular under Conte or Mourinho next season.
