Arsenal To Submit Formal Bid After Agreeing Personal Terms With Chelsea Target
Arsenal are set to table a formal offer to Everton for Romelu Lukaku after agreeing personal terms with the Chelsea target over a summer move to the Emirates
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are heavily linked with Romelu Lukaku….
Arsenal are set to table a formal offer to Everton for Romelu Lukaku after agreeing personal terms with the Chelsea target over a summer move to the Emirates, according to the Daily Star.
Lukaku has just come off the back of his most prolific season to date having scored 25 goals in all competitions for a struggling Everton side that finished eleventh in the Premier League table last year.
His impressive form has attracted interest from some of England’s most powerful clubs as the Daily Star reported earlier this week that Arsenal had joined Chelsea in the race to sign the Belgian international hitman this summer.
Incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte is expected to be busy in the transfer market rebuilding the Chelsea squad and has reportedly made Lukaku one of his key targets as he looks to bring in support for Diego Costa ahead of next season.
However, it looks as though Arsenal are now in pole position to sign the 23-year-old as the Daily Star are citing Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli as saying that the Gunners have agreed personal terms with Lukaku over a move to North London.
Giulianelli – who works for Gazzetta dello Sport – claims that Chelsea have also been ‘pressing’ for Lukaku’s signature but Arsenal are now ready to test Everton’s resolve with a formal bid for the striker.
He said on Twitter:
“Despite Chelsea pressing, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Lukaku.
“An offer will be submitted.”
It remains to be seen how much truth there is behind Giulianelli’s claims but Lukaku’s agent, Mino Raiola, said earlier this week that the striker is keen to play for a club who can win trophies – although he also didn’t rule out staying at Everton following their take over.
Raiola is quoted as saying by the Daily Star:
“Everton don’t need money anymore, Rom wants to play for a club that can win trophies.
“Something’s changed at Everton – there’s a new project.”
The Toffees have been taken over by a new billionaire owner so they are now financially stable but that doesn’t mean they won’t sell Lukaku for the right price, especially if the striker makes it clear he wants to leave.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for a new hitman after missing out on Jamie Vardy and Lukaku would certainly provide stiff competition for Olivier Giroud if he was to make the move to the Emirates this summer.
Until the north Londoners agree a fee with Everton there is still time for Chelsea to try and hijack Arsenal’s proposed move but for now it looks as though the Gunners are in pole position to sign Lukaku if he ends up leaving Goodison Park and I think he’d be an excellent signing for them.
