Man Utd In Pole Position To Sign Chelsea Target After Tabling Mega £80m Bid

Manchester United are in pole position to sign Chelsea target Paul Pogba after agreeing to meet Juventus’ £80m asking price for the French super star

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Paul Pogba….

Manchester United are in pole position to sign Chelsea target Paul Pogba after agreeing to meet Juventus’ £80m asking price for the French super star, according to the Sun.

Pogba was once on the books at Untied as a teenager but left to join Juventus on a free transfer in 2012 after refusing to sign a new contract following a bust-up with Sir Alex Ferguson over his lack of progress at the club.

The 23-year-old has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in the world over the past four years and has helped Juve win four consecutive Serie A titles during his time in Turin.

Understandably, Pogba has attracted plenty of interest in his signature with his agent, Mino Raiola, recently being quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying that Man Utd and Chelsea were among a whole host of top European clubs that he regular talks to.

“It is not a secret. Every year I meet with Madrid, but also with United, Barcelona, City, Liverpool, Chelsea.

“That is my job. In the last two years my relationship with Real Madrid is clear and professional. Now there is serious dialogue, it’s positive.

“There are other important clubs like United, that was part of (Pogba’s) life, Barcelona likes three attackers, PSG is Paris and he has a house there. But then there is Real Madrid.”

Judging from Raiola’s comments, there is strong interest in the French international but incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has reportedly earmarked Pogba as a key target as he looks to revamp the squad he’ll inherit after he’s fulfilled his duties with Italy at Euro 2016.

Conte knows Pogba well as he was the man to lure him to Juventus four years ago and it looks as though the Italian tactician would love to be reunited with the midfielder at Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, it looks as though United have now stolen a march on their rivals as the Sun claim the Red Devils are in pole position to secure a deal for Pogba after becoming the first club to meet Juve’s £80m asking price having seen their initial £60m bid knocked back.

The newspaper says that United officials have met with Pogba’s agent and are now ready to tempt the player with a bumper contract worth around £200,000-a-week as the Glazers try to finally make a statement in the market by signing a world class super star.

However, there could still be a major stumbling block as the Sun suggest that Pogba has reservations about heading back to Old Trafford after leaving under a cloud in 2012 while he’s also waiting to see whether Real Madrid step-up their interest with a formal offer after the La Liga giants also held talks with his agent.

It’s gearing up to be a fascinating summer with some of Europe’s most powerful clubs battling over Pogba’s signature and it’s going to be interesting to see where the French international ends up.

Obviously he’d be a sensational signing for either United or Chelsea, but I have a feeling Pogba may opt for Madrid if the Champions League holders meet Juve’s reported £80m asking price. If not, then United are the front-runners for his signature….
