Arsenal Set To Table £32m Bid For South American Striker

Arsenal are set to test Inter Milan’s resolve with a £32m bid to sign striker Mauro Icardi this summer after Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to the Emirates

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Mauro Icardi….

Arsenal are set to test Inter Milan’s resolve with a £32m bid to sign striker Mauro Icardi this summer after Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to the Emirates, according to a report on talkSPORT.

Arsene Wenger is on the look out for a new front-man after Danny Welbeck was ruled out for nine months with a knee injury while Theo Walcott’s future at the club is uncertain after losing his first team place last season.

We looked set to sign Vardy after triggering his release clause earlier this month but the 29-year-old opted to sign a new contract extension with Leicester City last week.

The boss has therefore been forced to look at alternative targets and talkSPORT claim that Wenger has now set his sights on signing Inter Milan hitman Mauro Icardi.

The report suggests that we’ve been keeping a close eye on the Argentinean international for some time and are now ready to test Inter’s resolve with a formal opening offer worth £32m.

There is no indication given as to whether the Serie A outfit will accept or reject our reported offer so we’ll have to see how things develop over the coming days but Icardi would be an interesting signing if we could get a deal agreed.

The 23-year-old joined Inter from Sampdoria in 2013 and has scored 52 goals and provided 15 assists in his 105 appearances for the Italian giants in the last three years so the South American has a decent record in front of goal.

Giroud: Arsenal need an alternative

We certainly need another option to Olivier Giroud up front next season if we want to stand any chance of pushing for major honours and while Icardi isn’t the finished article just yet, he has the potential to develop in to a top class hitman.

I wouldn’t put him in the same bracket as the likes of Robert Lewandowski or Pierre Emerick Aubameyang but it’s going to be extremely difficult to sign those sorts of strikers so Wenger may have to take a gamble on someone like Icardi this summer.
