Attacker Tells Clubs He Wants To Join Man Utd After Mourinho Tables £33m Bid
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has TEXT Borussia Dortmund to inform them he wants to join Manchester United after the Red Devils submitted an improved £33m offer.
The opening of the summer transfer window is almost upon us so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Henrikh Mkhitaryan tells Borussia Dortmund he wants to join Man Utd….
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has TEXT Borussia Dortmund to inform them he wants to join Manchester United after the Red Devils submitted an improved £33m offer, according to the Express.
Mkhitaryan’s future has been the focus of much speculation over the past few weeks after it was confirmed he had turned down the chance to sign a contract extension with Dortmund after negotiations collapsed.
With just one year remaining on his current deal, a number of clubs have been showing a keen interest in the Armenian international but United emerged as the clear favourites after the attackers agent confirmed he had his heart set on moving to Old Trafford [source: MEN].
Dortmund have been playing hardball during negotiations as they are reluctant to lose another key player after seeing Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels leave the club this summer but CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted earlier this week that their stance has changed after United tabled an improved offer.
The Mirror claim that United’s latest bid is worth £33m and Watzke went on to reveal that Dortmund will make a final decision over whether to cash-in or force Mkhitaryan to see-out the final year of his deal this weekend.
Watzke is quoted as saying by the Express:
“The situation is now different, Manchester have made a much improved offer.”
“In situations like this there are always a lot of different things to consider and in the end at one point we have to make a decision.
“And as we are back in training on Monday we will decide at the weekend.
“I have contacted the relevant people and we will weigh things up at the weekend. And then the board will make the decision, definitely at the weekend.”
So it seems Dortmund are going to weigh things up over the weekend, however, Mkhitaryan has seemingly tried to put pressure on his club to sell with the Express citing a report from Bild that claims the 27-year-old sent a text message to manager Thomas Tuchel telling him he wants to join United.
The German outlet quoted Mkhitaryan’s text as simply saying:
“I go to Manchester United.”
We’ll have to wait and see how Dortmund respond to such antics but it’s going to be extremely difficult for them to turn down £33m for a player who wants to leave and will be able to walk away for nothing in just 12 months time.
Jose Mourinho is gearing up for a busy summer as he looks to revamp the squad he’s inherited from Louis van Gaal and the Portuguese coach is looking to add more creativity to his new-look side after watching United score just 49 league goals last season.

There aren’t many more creative talents around than Mkhitaryan as he scored 23 goals and provided an incredible 32 assists for Dortmund last season so he’d be a sensational signing for United if they are able to get the deal over the line.
