Barca must be cursing their luck for drawing the Gunners

As Arsene predicted, we were drawn to meet Barcelona in the first knock-out stage of the Champions League. Many may consider that this is the worst possible draw for us but with a 25% chance of meeting the favorites, it was hard to avoid to inevitable. We shall not dwell on the two defeats that brought us to this state after starting so brightly with the thrashing of Braga.

Personally, I am happy to draw Barcelona. You might think I am mad but it is the best possible draw for us. Let me tell you why. First, I genuine believe that we have what it takes to beat Barcelona if we performed to our best. We gave them a great fright and rattled them with the performance at the Emirates when we played with an almost full team (just missing Robin Van Persie). I am convinced we would have beaten them at the Camp Nou had we showed up with the same team. Unfortunately, injuries started to take its toll on the first team and we went there without 5 first team regulars and ended up losing. However, we took the lead and it was only because of Messi that we lost the match. He is nowhere near the form he was last year while we have improved the squad. In Nasri, we have currently the hottest player in Europe.

Second, even if we lose, there is no harm to it. It is better to lose early in the knockout stages then going forward into the latter stages only to lose then. Last year was a classic example. Chelsea went out early and could concentrate on the domestic challenge. Ourselves and Man United went forward into the quarterfinals and semifinals but failed to match Chelsea domestically. Therefore, a lost could be the best thing for us since our title competitors would surely go through given their easy match-ups against weak opponents.

Having said that, I don’t think Josep Guardiola will be pleased with the draw. The pressure will be all on him and I think he will be having sleepless nights thinking about this match-up. For us, if we win it would be a big boost to our European credentials and elimination of the favorites from the competition. As said, even if we lose there is no big downside to it. So getting Barcelona is the ideal situation for the Gunners.

It’s possible that we’d fluke a win over Barca over one leg but we are not going to beat them over two legs.

As for going out at an early stage??? What about the TV money that comes with progressing to the later stages? Money seems to be all we care about these days.

We shouldsent the youth team or just givebarca the win and drop the match right? I mean we can’t win anyway rigt? Most fans seem to be more than happy to just skip it all. If we win we are lucky if we loose we are poor. We are so shit that we can’t play good. So its only luck if we play ok. A fluke! I mean. A team like arsenal just cannot win!
As the fans say let’s just not bother to play at all as we loose anyway right?

    Are you insane?

Have you seen Barcelona’s form this season?

26 goals in a row and still going without letting one in, and described by some as the best football ever seen.

    Arsenal don’t stand a chance.

For some stupid reason ~I think we have a chance in this game BUT why you aresaying that Messi is not anywhere near as a good a form as last season I have no idea. You obviously have not been watching Barca the last 4 weeks cos Messi has been SENSATIONAL!!!!! He beat Madrid on his own!!!!!!

big l-i beleive we can win one & draw one against barca.that’s all we need..that & a full side out oh & a large dollop of luck that’s long overdue!imo they will never play as well again as they did in the first leg last year.for me,any side in the world would have been played off the park that day-2nd leg,we were destroyed, yes.but if some people don’t think having five first team players missing would not have made a diff they’re WRONG.this year they dismantled maureen & madrid & wern’t half as good as that day, even by peps admission-so we’ve got nothing to lose-the world & it’s dog have written us off-the old arsenal would have loved it-backs against the wall-this arsenal,we’ll have to wait & see?

messi has scored 23 goals in 19 games.
    these are just statistics though.
need to call up the fantastic 4 to plug our defensive problems.

Let’s be honest, we’re not gonna make past barca.we lack the focus, determination, firepower, and most important of all the defensive strength to withstand barca’s might. Gooner till we drop.

Well said. I’ve become a gunner 2 years ago. What I love about Arsenal is the way they play, their style. I do care about the results but I’ve been thinking recently that what really brings me joy is the process of watching the game. Yes, Inter won the Champions League but for some reason, I feel sorry for their victory. That was not the way you suppose to win it. They won it by accident. For me, the Arsenal vs Barcelona game is the celebration of beautiful football, and I’m just happy to witness it. And by the way, I believe we will lift the trophy THIS season!
