Arsenal have put forward a salary offer to Djibril Sidibe after entering negotiations with Lille over a deal to sign the French defender this summer, according to L’Equipe via French Football News.
Sidibe has developed in to one of the most highly-rated full-backs in French football since joining Lille from Troyes back in the summer of 2012.
The 23-year-old looked set to join AS Monaco after they agreed a £12m deal earlier this week that would also see midfielder Rony Lopes go the other way on an initial loan.
However, L’Equipe reported yesterday that Arsenal had made a last ditch attempt to hijack Monaco’s deal after Arsene Wenger made contact with Lille to discuss a potential move for Sidibe.
It appears those talks were successful as French Football News are citing L’Equipe as reporting today that Arsenal have put forward an offer to the player after making contact with his representatives.
The outlet doesn’t give any indication as to the kind of package we’ve put on the table but it looks like the final decision will come down to Sidibe as to whether he wants to remain in France and complete his proposed move to Monaco or come to England and join Arsenal.
Sidibe is a French under-21 international who is predominantly a left-back but he’s also capable of playing at right-back so he’d give Wenger plenty of options in defence if he does opt to come to the Emirates this summer.

Should we wrap-up a deal for Sidibe, it would be another indication that Kieran Gibbs’s future is away from Arsenal with the 26-year-old tipped to leave the club after losing his place to Nacho Monreal over the past two season.
