Arsenal Steal March On Liverpool & Man Utd After Tabling £43m Attacker Bid

By on July 8, 2016

The opening of the summer transfer window is now open so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal have tabled a bid for Julian Draxler….

Arsenal look to have stolen a march on Liverpool and Manchester United after submitting a £43m bid for Wolfsburg attacker Julian Draxler, according to ESPN via the Sun.

After coming through the youth ranks at Schalke and developing in to one of the most talented young attacker in Europe in recent years, Draxler earned a £25.5m move to Wolfsburg last summer.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season at the Volkswagen Arena having scored 9 goals as well as providing 8 assists in his 35 appearances in all competitions to secure his place in the German squad for Euro 2016 where he made six appearances before their exit to France on Thursday night.

Draxler has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and the Express reported earlier this week that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United were all showing a keen interest in luring him away from the Bundesliga this summer.

However, it looks as though the Gunners have now stolen a march on their domestic rivals as ESPN [via the Sun] are reporting that Arsenal have now tested Wolsfburg’s resolve with a £43m bid for the attacker.

It’s not clear whether the German outfit have responded to the offer as yet but they may find it difficult to resist given that they would make a profit of around £18m in little over 12 months if they decided to cash-in.

Arsene Wenger is on the look out for more firepower in attack and with Theo Walcott’s future at the Emirates in doubt it appears the long-serving French boss may have identified Draxler as a potential replacement.

The youngster is capable of playing on either wing or through the middle so he’d give Wenger plenty of options in the final third if Arsenal were able to win the race for his signature this summer.

However, until something is agreed, the door is still open for the likes of Liverpool or United to try and hijack the Gunners deal and Jurgen Klopp knows the player well from his time in Germany while Jose Mourinho has been splashing the cash rebuilding his squad at Old Trafford.

We’ll have to see how things progress over the coming days but I think Draxler would be a superb signing for any of the three English clubs being linked so I’d love to see him plying his trade in the Premier League next season.
