Man Utd Target ‘Very Keen’ On Arsenal Move As Wenger Opens Talks With £50m Star
A £50m-rated attacker who has been linked with Manchester United is keen on joining Arsenal after Arsene Wenger opened talks with his agent over a deal.
The summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, more on the future of Julian Draxler….
Julian Draxler is keen on joining Arsenal this summer after the German attackers agent opened talks with Arsene Wenger over a potential big-money move from Wolfsburg, according to the Daily Star.
Draxler developed in to one of Europe’s most exciting young talents during his time with Schalke before making a £25.5m move to the Volkswagen Arena last summer.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season at Wolfsburg having scored 9 goals as well as providing 8 assists in his 35 appearances in all competitions to secure his place in the German squad for Euro 2016, where he made six appearances for the World Champions.
Draxler has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and the Express reported earlier this month that Arsenal and Manchester United were among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing the attacker.
Jose Mourinho has been busy rebuilding the squad left behind by Louis van Gaal with three new faces making the move to Old Trafford this summer but the Portuguese coach is expected to further strengthen his new-look squad over the coming weeks with Draxler among his targets.
However, it looks as though Arsenal have stolen a march on United as the Daily Star are citing Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli as saying that the attackers agent has now opened talks with Arsene Wenger over a potential switch to north London.
Giulianelli – who works for Gazette dello Sport – claims that the Gunners are yet to table a formal offer to Wolfsburg but Draxler would be “very keen” on moving to the Emirates if a deal could be agreed between the two clubs.
The Italian is quoted as saying by the Daily Star:
“Draxler’s agent has been in contact with Wenger though.
“No official bid by Arsenal just yet.”
“Draxler would be very keen on the move: he tried to go to Arsenal for the past 2 years.”
These claims come amid reports from German publication Bild that also suggest Arsenal are working on a deal to sign Draxler but they beleive that it would take a bid of £50m (€60m) to persuade Wolfsburg in to a sale.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal will be prepared to meet that figure but the Express claim that Wolfsburg are resigned to losing Draxler this summer while they also suggest that Wenger is planning to turn the player in to a striker if he manages to lure him to the Emirates.
Draxler has played across the attacking midfield position throughout his career so it would take some adjusting for him to be comfortable up front but the youngster certainly has all the attributes needed to convert into a striker if that really is Wenger’s plan.
The Gunners are desperately trying to strengthen their forward options after missing out on Jamie Vardy and it looks like Draxler is now emerging as a likely target but only time will tell whether they are able to get a deal over the line.
