Arsenal In Talks Over Deal For Colombian International

The opening of the summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Jeison Murillo….

Arsenal are in talks with Inter Milan over a potential deal to sign Colombian international Jeison Murillo as Arsene Wenger tries to bring in another centre-back this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The boss has already signed Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka while a deal is in place for Japanese attacker Takuma Asano but the Frenchman is expected to sign at least two more players with a defender understood to be a priority.

Per Mertesacker’s lack of pace continues to be a problem while Gabriel is yet to prove he can be the reliable partner for Laurent Koscielny that we desperately need so Wenger appears to be in the market for a centre-back over the coming weeks.

Several names have been linked with a move to north London in recent weeks but Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claimed last month that we’d identified Inter Milan star Jeison Murillo as a potential target.

It looks as though we’ve now stepped up our interest in the Colombian as the Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal chiefs are in talks with our Italian counterparts about a potential deal for the defender.

The newspaper doesn’t give any indication as to whether Inter are planning to sell but they may be tempted to cash-in as the Serie A giants need to raise funds to settle a £39m deficit in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Murillo only moved to the San Siro from Granada last summer but the 24-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut season in Italy as he impressed during his 33 appearances to help Inter secure a top four finish, so he could be an exciting addition if we can get a deal agreed.

I certainly think a new centre-back is required this summer and ideally we need to have him on board before we fly out to the United States for our pre-season tour later this month so he has time to integrate himself in to the squad ahead of the new season.
