The opening of the summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Joe Allen….

Manchester United are considering a shock swoop on rivals Liverpool with Jose Mourinho keen on signing midfielder Joe Allen this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

Allen’s future at Anfield has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks as the midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular since moving from Swansea back in 2012.

The Wales international has just 12 months remaining on his current contract and has yet to even begin talks over a possible extension but interest has been mounting in his signature following Allen’s excellent performances at Euro 2016.

There has been plenty of speculation around a possible return to the Liberty Stadium this summer with Allen understood to be open to the idea of re-joining the club he grew up with having joined Swansea’s youth academy in 1999.

However, it looks like the Swans could face some stiff competition as the Mirror are citing a report coming from South Wales Evening Post that claims Manchester United are now showing an interest in luring Allen to Old Trafford.

The newspaper suggests that new manager Jose Mourinho has identified the 26-year-old as a possible target as he looks to rebuild the midfield he’s inherited from former United boss Louis van Gaal.

Michael Carrick is coming towards the end of his illustrious career while Bastian Schweinsteiger endured a frustrating injury-plagued debut season at the club and although United have been linked with a big-money move for Paul Pogba, it seems Mourinho is also eyeing a surprise move for Allen.

Jurgen Klopp Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp is understood to be willing to sell the Welsh midfielder is the right offer comes along but I seriously doubt whether the Liverpool boss will be prepared to do business if it’s United who come forward with a bid.

The two north-west clubs are bitter rivals and rarely has there ever been any transfer dealings done between the pair so I think this has to go down as one of the strangest transfer rumours of the summer so far.
