Arsenal & Man Utd Keen On Signing Turkish International In £16.8m Deal
Arsenal and Manchester United are showing a keen interest in signing Besiktas midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup with the Turkish star available for £16.8m this summer
The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Manchester United are linked with Oğuzhan Özyakup….
Arsenal and Manchester United are showing a keen interest in signing Besiktas midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup with the Turkish star available for £16.8m this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Ozyakup has already tasted life in England having spent four years in the Arsenal youth set-up between 2008 and 2012 but failed to make a single Premier League appearance for the first team before sealing a £350,000 move to Besiktas.
The midfielder has excelled during his four years in Turkey and played a key role in helping Besiktas win the Super Lig title last season having scored 10 goals and provided 8 assists in his 40 appearances.
It appears that form has attracted interest from England as the Daily Star are citing reports from Spain that claim Manchester United are showing an interest in signing Ozyakup this summer while Arsenal are also understood to be keen on luring the 23-year-old back to the Emirates.
However, while the newspaper suggests that Besiktas are ready to cash-in for around £16.8m, the Premier League duo could face competition from Spain as Valencia are also eyeing the midfielder as a potential replacement for Andre Gomes following his move to Barcelona.
Jose Mourinho has already brought in three new faces at United but the Portuguese coach is still expected to do further business in the transfer market as he looks to continue to revamp his newly-inherited squad and it appears Ozyakup is on his radar.
Arsene Wenger was a big fan of the Turkish midfielder during his time with Arsenal and reluctantly allowed him to leave in search of regular football but it looks like the French boss could now offer Ozyakup another chance to make it in north London.
Although it’s difficult to see how the young midfielder would get any more regular action at the Emirates this time around as he’d face stiff competition from the likes of Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin and Aaron Ramsey for a place in Wenger’s team.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal or United decide to formalise their interest in the 23-cap Turkish international and while a move to Old Trafford is at least feasible, I’d personally be surprised if Ozyakup ended up back at Arsenal this summer.
