Spurs dominated from the outset and almost opened the scoring when Toby Alderweireld’s powerful header went straight at Wayne Hennessey in the Palace goal in the 12th minute.
Harry Kane then fired wide when well placed on the edge of the area shortly before half time as the two sides went in to the break level at 0-0.
Tottenham continued to push for the opening goal and eventually found the breakthrough during the dying minutes as Wanyama was on hand to head home from close range in the 87th minute to win it for the hosts.
