The transfer window is now drawing to a close so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Lucas Perez…

Arsenal are set to sign Derportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez within the next 24 hours after triggering the Spanish strikers £17m (€20m) buyout clause, according to Marca.

Arsene Wenger has been scouring the market trying to find a new striker to compete with Olivier Giroud this season and we’ve been frustrated in our pursuit of a number of players including the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Jamie Vardy.

A new target emerged on Wednesday with the Daily Mail reporting that Arsenal had made a late move to gazump Everton’s deal for Lucas Perez after agreeing to pay the 27-year-old’s £17m buyout fee having scouted the player for some time.

The newspaper says that Valencia also enquired about the striker as they look for a replacement for Barcelona-bound Paco Alcacer but were told Perez was close to joining Arsenal.

It appears the deal is now on the verge of completion as Spanish outlet Marca are reporting that Perez will be an Arsenal player by Friday and is set to sign a long-term contract with the club after the details of the deal were agreed on Thursday.

So it looks as though we’re finally set to sign a striker and although he may not be the ‘big’ name that fans have been crying out for, Perez will still strengthen our attacking options and bring some much-needed competition for Giroud.

He’s predominantly a centre-forward who is quick and a decent finisher, but he’s also capable of playing out on the wing so he’ll give Wenger plenty of options in the final third if he does end up completing a move to the Emirates.
