Liverpool Team News Update: Klopp Confirms Key Duo Could Miss Tottenham Clash

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool could be without two key men for Saturday’s trip to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham.

Liverpool will look to bounce back from last weeks defeat at Burnley when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday lunchtime.

Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update.

The Reds boss confirmed that Emre Can is a major doubt for the trip to London this weekend after being forced off during Liverpool’s midweek EFL Cup win at Burton Albion.

Can was recalled to the starting eleven for Tuesday night’s game after recovering from a minor back problem but limped off midway through the second half after suffering an ankle injury.

Klopp has revealed that the issue doesn’t look to be too serious but he’s expected to miss the Spurs game because Liverpool will be cautious with the injury as the German international has been plagued by ankle problems in recent years.

In a potential double blow, Divock Origi is also a doubt for the trip to White Hart Lane after being forced off during the closing stages of Liverpool’s 5-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium with cramp.

The Belgian international will be assessed by the Merseysiders medical team over the next 48 hours but Klopp confirmed that Origi may just miss out this weekend.

He told the clubs website:

“There are a few players a little bit in doubt, of course. It’s not too serious.

“We had a game on Tuesday and the next game is in two days again, so we need to wait a little bit.

“Of course, it’s Emre – there’s nothing really serious in the ankle but it’s ‘his’ ankle if you want, where he had a few problems in the past.

“It shouldn’t be too long, for sure, but maybe too long for the Tottenham game, I don’t know in this moment.

“It’s the same with Divock. It’s nothing serious really. But if you have cramp, whatever the cramp exactly is because [there are] different levels, you need to have a look at it too. So it’s not for sure that they will be available.”

If Can and Origi are ruled out then they’ll join an ever-growing Liverpool injury list with Sheyi Ojo, Loris Karius, Lucas Leiva, Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho already set to miss the trip to the capital.
