Key Liverpool Target Reveals He’s A Man Utd Fan Who Idolises Wayne Rooney
Borussia Dortmund midfielder and Liverpool target Christian Pulisic has revealed that’s he’s a boyhood Manchester United fan who grew up idolising Wayne Rooney
The summer transfer window is now closed for another year but it’s not time to look back on those deals that didn’t go through and those that are being lined-up for the future. Today, Christian Pulisic admits he’s a Man Utd fan…
Borussia Dortmund midfielder and key Liverpool target Christian Pulisic has revealed that’s he’s a boyhood Manchester United fan who grew up idolising Wayne Rooney, according to the Mirror.
Pulisic has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in German football since Reds boss Jurgen Klopp promoted him to the first team squad during his final season with Dortmund.
The 17-year-old became the youngest player to score in the Bundesliga and despite his tender age, he’s already a full international with the United States and has scored 3 goals in his 8 caps so far.
Klopp is keen to be reunited with Pulisic at Anfield with the Liverpool Echo reporting that Liverpool are already planning a fresh move for the teenager after seeing an £11m bid rejected by Dortmund shortly before deadline day.
However, the Merseysiders will be disappointed to hear that Pulisic grew up supporting their bitter north west rivals with the young attacker revealing that his idol was United skipper Wayne Rooney.
Pulisic is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“I was a big Manchester United fan when I was younger so I loved to watch Wayne Rooney,”
“I wouldn’t say I’m a similar player, though. I think his passion for the game is something you don’t see much in players. That’s what I loved about him.”
The winger also confirmed that he’s aware of Liverpool’s ongoing interest in him but insists he’s only focussed on doing well with Dortmund for now. He continued:
“I hear about it. I have social media,” he said.
“Obviously I’m not completely closed to the world. But I don’t let it affect me or how I’m playing at the time. The whole time throughout, I was just focused on training every day.
“I don’t have as much experience as a lot of players on the (Dortmund) team. But just getting my minutes and working hard every day in training and becoming a normal member of the team is the goal.”
It’s obviously not ideal for Liverpool that Pulisic is a boyhood United fan but there is no suggestion that the Red Devils are interested in signing the young attacker or competing with the Merseysiders for his signature any time soon.
Klopp clearly knows Pulisic well from their time together at Dortmund and the player is tipped to have a bright future in the game so it sounds like he’d be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad – despite his affection towards United.
