Liverpool Injury Update: Return Date Set For Injured Star

Joe Gomez is expected to make his comeback from injury towards the end of October as the Liverpool defender looks to finally get his career at Anfield underway

Joe Gomez is expected to make his long-awaited comeback from injury towards the end of October as the Liverpool defender looks to finally get his career at Anfield underway, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Gomez joined Liverpool from Charlton Atheltic in a £3.5m deal back in June 2015 and he quickly settled in to life on Merseyside after earning rave reviews for his performances in his first seven appearances for the club.

However, the 19-year-old’s progress was brought to an abrupt end after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing for the England Under-21s against Kazakhstan last October.

The versatile defender was on course to make his return to full first team training back in July before he suffered a cruel setback after being diagnosed with tendinopathy in his Achilles.

Liverpool medical staff were initially reluctant to put a timescale on his recovery as they wanted to make sure the injury was resolved once and for all and Gomez has been undergoing intense treatment in recent months.

However, it looks as though the end is finally in sight for the promising defender as the Liverpool Echo claim that Gomez is set to finally make his return to light training in mid October.

By that point, the player will have been out for around a year so Gomez is going to need plenty of time on the training field working on his fitness before he’ll be considered available for selection by Jurgen Klopp.

But it’s excellent news that the teenager is now coming towards the end of this injury nightmare as Gomez is considered as one of the brightest young defenders in British football and should go on to have a huge career at Liverpool.
