Liverpool Team News: Klopp Confirms Fresh Injury Concern + Sakho Update
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed a fresh injury concerns ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Swansea City this weekend plus he’s given an update on Mamadou Sakho.
Liverpool will be looking to extend their four-game winning streak when they head to the Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea City on Saturday lunchtime.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update.
The German coach revealed that overall the squad is in good health but Divock Origi is a doubt for the trip to Wales after suffering a minor foot injury in training at Melwood this week.
Klopp is confident the issue is a minor one as he describes the injury as a ‘little knock on his foot’ but says the striker will be assessed by the clubs medical team to see whether he’ll be passed fit to face Swansea on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters today, Klopp is quoted as saying by the clubs website:
“[There’s] not too much news, nothing really to talk about.
“It’s been a normal training week with a couple of little things here and there, but in this moment there is not really somebody in doubt.
“Maybe Divock. He got a little knock on his foot and we had to do a few more assessments, but in the end it is nothing major.
“Maybe it’s a little bit too short a period until the game, but we have to see. That’s all at the moment.”
Origi has endured a frustrating campaign so far as a number of niggling minor injury problems have hampered his progress and he’s yet to start a Premier League game this season so I’m sure he’ll be keen to make the squad this weekend.
Klopp also gave an update on Mamadou Sakho’s situation after the centre-back made his comeback with a run-out for the under-23’s on Wednesday evening.
Sakho has been exiled from the Liverpool first team after falling out-of-favour under Klopp and it looked like his future was over at Anfield after the club tried to send him out on loan before the close of the summer window.
However, the French international failed to secure a move away from the club and it looks like he may have been handed a lifeline as Klopp says he’s spoken with the player and hinted that he could force his way back in to his plans if he works hard enough.
Klopp on Sakho: "Work hard is the rule for every player. I spoke to Mama and now we carry on."
