Liverpool Plotting January Swoop For Out-Of-favour £27m Midfielder

Liverpool are plotting a January swoop for an out-of-favour £27m midfielder as Jurgen Klopp begins to make plans for the winter window

The summer transfer window is closed for another year but it’s now time to look back on those deals that didn’t go through and those that are being lined-up for the future. Today, Liverpool are linked with Geoffrey Kondogbia…

Liverpool are plotting a January swoop for out-of-favour £27m Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia as Jurgen Klopp begins to make plans for the winter window, according to the Daily Star.

Kondogbia progressed through the Lens youth team before joining Sevilla in 2012 and his impressive form in Spain earned him a big-money move to Monaco where he continued to forge a reputation as one of the brightest young midfielder in Europe.

His form with the Ligue 1 giants eventually led to a £27m move to Inter Milan in the summer of 2015 but it’s fair to say Kondogbia’s time in Italy hasn’t exactly gone according to plan.

The 23-year-old endured a disappointing debut season in Serie A and he’s fallen out-of-favour under new boss Frank de Boer with the Dutch coach publicly criticising the midfielder following his error during a 1-1 draw with Bologna last month.

De Boer is quoted by the Daily Star as saying:

“We already talked about this and he makes the same mistakes often. We cannot accept that from players when we’ve told them many times already.”

Kondogbia hasn’t played since De Boer’s dressing down and it’s led to intense speculation the French international will be on the move in January, and it looks as though he could be heading for the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp Liverpool

That’s because the Daily Star are citing reports coming out of Italy that claim Liverpool are keen on signing Kondogbia on loan until the end of the season and are prepared to pay his wages in full.

Kondogbia is a specialist central midfielder – which is not exactly an area Liverpool are lacking in – but with James Milner currently excelling at left-back and Emre Can struggling with niggling injuries so far this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen in the middle of the park.

The former Sevilla man would be an exciting addition if Liverpool could get him back playing to the best of his ability and his power would add a new dimension to the Reds first team squad if they could get a deal agreed.
