Transfer News: Arsenal & Liverpool Step-Up Interest In Serie A Duo

Arsenal and Liverpool have stepped up their interest in two Serie A attackers as Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp plan their next transfer moves.

The summer transfer window is closed for another year but it’s now time to look back on those deals that didn’t go through and those that are being lined-up for the future. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with two strikers…

Arsenal and Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Genoa forward Leonardo Pavoletti and Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel after sending scouts to watch the duo in recent weeks, according to the Daily Star.

Pavoletti joined Genoa from Sassoulo in 2015 and after a solid debut season at the club he’s enjoyed an excellent start to this campaign having scored three goals in his five appearances so far.

It looks like the 27-year-old has now caught the attention of two of England’s biggest clubs as the Daily Star are citing reports from Italy that claim Arsenal and Liverpool have sent scouts to keep a close eye on the striker in recent weeks.

Pavoletti still has three years left to run on his current contract so Genoa are under no pressure to sell any time soon but they would find it difficult to hang on to the attacker if the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool were to make their interest official.

However, neither club appear on the brink of doing so and it looks like Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp have other targets on their radar as the newspaper says that the duo have also been scouting Gregorie Defrel.

The 25-year-old was actually signed by Sassuolo to replace Pavoletti following his move to Genoa and he’s been in superb form so far this season with seven goals in his 11 appearances.

Defrel was born in France but is yet to represent his country at any level so he’d be something of a risky purchase if either Arsenal or Liverpool were to make a formal move to sign the striker over the next couple of transfer windows.
