Liverpool Anger After Manchester-Based Referee Named For Man Utd Clash

Liverpool fans have been left venting their anger after Manchester-based referee Anthony Taylor was appointed to take charge of Monday night’s huge clash with Manchester United.

The Reds welcome their fierce north-west rivals to Anfield a week on Monday for an eagerly anticipated clash that will see Jurgen Klopp come up against Jose Mourinho for the first time this season.

However, Liverpool fans are unimpressed after the Premier League confirmed this afternoon that Taylor has been selected as the man to oversee the game as the 37-year-old referee is from Greater Manchester.

It’s the first time Taylor has been selected to officiate a game between Liverpool and United and no doubt there will be questions asked if the ref awards the visitors any dubious decisions during the match.

Taylor hasn’t refereed a Premier League game involving Liverpool since the Swansea game in November 2015 with his last Liverpool match coming during a League Cup tie with Stoke back in January.

He has developed in to one of the top referees in the Premier League since he became a FIFA listed official in 2013 and I’m sure he’ll remain neutral despite his Manchester connections, but it’s still a controversial appointment given the size of the Liverpool-United game.

Klopp’s side head in to the match in excellent form having won their last five games in all competitions and sit three points above United in fourth position in the table.
