Klopp Orders Liverpool Chiefs To Sign £27m International In January

Jurgen Klopp has ordered the Liverpool hierarchy to try and sign a £27m midfielder as he looks to strengthen his options during the January transfer window.

The summer transfer window is closed for another year but it’s now time to look back on those deals that didn’t go through and those that are being lined-up for the future. Today, Liverpool are linked with Geoffrey Kondogbia…

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has asked the clubs hierarchy to try and sign out-of-favour Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia during the January transfer window, according to the Daily Star.

Kondogbia made his name at Sevilla before earning a big-money move to Monaco where he forged a reputation as one of the most promising midfielders in Europe leading to a £27m move to Inter in the summer of 2015.

However, the 23-year-old’s time in Italy hasn’t gone according to plan as he endured a disappointing debut campaign in Serie A and has now fallen out-of-favour under new boss Frank de Boer.

The Dutch coach publicly criticised Kondogbia following the midfielders error against Bolognia last month and the player hasn’t started a game since leading to intense speculation he’ll be on the move this winter.

It appears the French international could be heading to the Premier League as the Daily Star are citing reports coming out of Italy that claim Liverpool are plotting a swoop for the midfielder in January.

The newspaper says that Jurgen Klopp has asked the clubs hierarchy to do all they can to sign Kondogbia when the transfer window re-opens as he looks to beef-up his midfield opens for the second half of the season.

The players agent Jonathan Maarek confirmed earlier this month that there is plenty of interest being shown in Kondogbia if he does decide to find a new club in Janaury.

“Despite the current situation, Geoffrey is relaxed. There are no problems and he is happy at Inter,” Maarek is quoted as saying by the Daily Star

“Kondogbia is certainly a top level player.

“He has a lot of quality and is very young, so obviously he has a lot of clubs interested in him.

“Can I name them? I will just say that he is not lacking interested clubs.”

Kondogbia is a powerful central midfielder and with James Milner now the established left-back at Anfield and Emre Can enduring some injury problems, it looks like Klopp has identified the Frenchman as the ideal player to strengthen his options in the middle of the park.

We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming weeks but if Kondogbia continues to be frozen out by De Boer then I wouldn’t be surprised if he moved on in January and I think he’d be a great addition to the Liverpool squad.
