Man Utd Duo Doubtful For Europa Tie After Missing Liverpool Clash Through Injury
Two Manchester United players are doubts to face Fenerbache in the Europa League on Thursday after missing the Liverpool game through injury.
Anthony Martial and Morgan Schneiderlin are doubts to face Fenerbache on Thursday after missing Manchester United’s 0-0 draw at Liverpool last night through injury, according to the Express.
Martial came off the bench to score during United’s 1-1 draw with Stoke City before the recent international break and was expected to be pushing for a starting spot at Anfield on Monday evening.
However, the French international was a surprise omission from squad when the team sheets were announced before the game and United soon confirmed that the attacker had suffered a knee injury in training.
Martial wasn’t the only player who missed the trip to Merseyside as Schneiderlin was also forced to miss the bore 0-0 draw against Liverpool after picking up a knock in training on Saturday ahead of the north-west derby.
Schneiderlin has struggled to establish himself as a regular under Jose Mourinho this season but the midfielder would have been hoping to feature during United’s Europa League clash with Fenerbache later this week.
The seriousness of the injuries are not yet known but the Express claim that Martial and Schneiderlin are both considered as doubts for the clash at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
We should know more over the coming days and Mourinho is expected to offer a team news and injury update at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday but it would be a big blow if United were to be without the French duo.
Mourinho is likely to freshen up his starting eleven with the Fenerbache game coming just three days after the Liverpool clash while United also have a tough trip to Chelsea on Sunday to worry about, so Martial and Schneiderlin would have been useful players to call upon during this hectic week.
