Tottenham take on Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League at Wembley. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups, betting tips and predicted score

Tottenham will look to take a huge step towards qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League when they take on Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley this evening.

Spurs head in to the game sitting second in Group E and just one point adrift of leaders Monaco following their 0-0 draw at Leverkusen two weeks ago so the north Londoners know a win tonight would put them within touching distance of the last 16.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are without a win in their last five games in all competitions with Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester leaving Tottenham down in fifth place and three points off the pace in the Premier League.

Therefore, the Argentinean coach will be desperate to pick up a morale-boosting win this evening as they prepare for Sunday’s huge trip to the Emirates to take on joint-leaders Arsenal.

Team news

Tottenham striker Harry Kane is back in light training but he won’t be risked this evening so he’ll be hoping to finally make his comeback against Arsenal following several weeks out with an ankle injury.

Toby Alderweireld is also still on the sidelines with a knee injury that’s proving difficult to overcome so Eric Dier will continue alongside Jan Vertonghen at the back.

Erik Lamela is a doubt for the game after suffering a hip injury in training while Pochettino could once again rest his first choice full backs with Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier coming in for Kyle Walker and Danny Rose.

Moussa Sissoko is available for the game as his three-match domestic ban does not apply in Europe.

Likely Line-Ups

Leverkusen: Leno; Henrichs, Tah, Toprak, Wendell; Brandt, Aranguiz, Kampl, Calhanoglu; Kiessling, Hernandez.

Predicted Score

Tottenham 2-1 Leverkusen: Spurs have struggled in recent games and look lacking ideas in the final third at times but they will be hoping to get back to winning ways this evening against a Leverkusen side that’s won just two of their previous 24 Champions League away games. I think the Germans will be a tough test but am backing Spurs to edge it.
