[Video Goals] Fenerbahce 2-1 Man Utd: Rooney Stunner Not Enough As Utd Crash

By on November 3, 2016

Wayne Rooney’s late stunner was not enough as Manchester United’s Europa League qualification hopes hang in the balance following a 2-1 defeat at Fenerbahce on Thursday night.

The hosts got off to the perfect start as Moussa Sow stunned United after opening the scoring with a stunning bicycle kick from the edge of the area which looped over David De Gea and in to the back of the net in the second minute.

United’s night got worse when Paul Pogba limped off shortly before half time and Jose Mourinho’s evening turned in to a nightmare when Fenerbahce made it 2-0 in the 59th minute through a superb Jermaine Lens free-kick.

Rooney gave United hope of a late comeback when he lashed home a powerful effort from 25 yards in the 89th minute but the Red Devils couldn’t find the equaliser so they crashed to a disappointing 2-1 defeat.

The loss leaves United sitting third in Group A on six points with Fenerbahce and Feyenoord both on seven points so Mourinho’s men will need to get back on track next time out if they’re to qualify for the knockout stages.
